In today’s complex and competitive global arena—where diplomats and international professionals must operate across a broad spectrum of issues, platforms, and stakeholders—the ability to influence others and build consensus is as critical as mastering protocol. This course equips participants with practical tools and strategies to strengthen their persuasive power in bilateral, multilateral, and informal settings.

Participants will not only learn the rules of the diplomatic game—including precedence and the ranking of diplomats, forms of address and titles, as well as protocol guidelines and rules of procedure for meetings and negotiations in international organisations—but also how to strategically navigate these rules to influence other diplomatic actors and shape political outcomes.

Whether advocating policy positions, managing stakeholder interests, or shaping political narratives, this course empowers participants to influence with clarity, credibility, and impact, and learn the nuances of diplomatic language and etiquette, essential for effective correspondence and diplomatic discourse.

Participants will practice and discuss protocol considerations for hosting and attending receptions, banquets, and ceremonies. These settings are not only governed by cultural awareness and sensitivity but also present key opportunities to build relationships, influence counterparts, and contribute to shaping the diplomatic and political agenda in informal settings.
