Justice in the Digital Age: Executive Education Delivers Judicial Training in Sri Lanka

Last month, the Executive Education team travelled to Sri Lanka to support the country’s judiciary with a dedicated training on the evolving challenges and opportunities of the digital age. This initiative builds on a first successful edition held in Geneva earlier this year.

The Executive Education team recently contributed to the Colloquium on Justice in the Digital Age, a capacity-building initiative held in early November in Sri Lanka under the auspices of the Hon. Chief Justice Padman Surasena. Following a successful first edition delivered in April in Geneva, this second session brought together 75 judicial officers from across the country for an in-depth examination of how artificial intelligence and digital technologies are reshaping justice systems worldwide.

Delivered on the ground in Sri Lanka, the sessions covered key themes including artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, data protection and digital rights, financial crime in digital environments, cryptocurrency and digital transactions, as well as regulatory and governance frameworks. Cedric Fidele, responsible for logistics within Executive Education, travelled to Sri Lanka as programme coordinator for this initiative.

We also take this opportunity to extend our sincere thanks to the expert speakers who contributed to the programme: Arthur Appleton, Maël Azokly, Binit Agrawal, William Carbone and Neha Mishra.

This Colloquium forms part of the Support to Justice Sector Project (JURE), funded by the European Union in Sri Lanka, implemented by UNDP and UNICEF Sri Lanka, and conducted in partnership with the Ministry of Justice. By strengthening judicial understanding of emerging technologies, the initiative supports Sri Lanka’s efforts to build a more resilient, informed and future-ready justice system.
