Conflict and Nature: how to protect the environment?

Gilles Carbonnier, Helen Obregón Gieseken, Doug Weir
, -

This online panel discussion will explore the often-overlooked connections between armed conflict and the natural environment.

As competition intensifies over strategic resources to power the energy transition, we will examine the interactions between armed conflict, nature and the resources people depend upon for survival. We will explore the relevant legal, economic and policy challenges and share firsthand insights into the ecological impacts of war in countries such as Yemen, Sudan or Ukraine—where recent initiatives include preventing and addressing wartime damages and the actions that States and other actors can take to enhance environmental protection.

Join our webinar and benefit from the insights of leading experts on the matter!
